Orlando Bass Fishing

Orlando bass fishing has been doing very good the past 2 weeks. Most of the Orlando bass fishing trips have been done on Butler Chain of Lakes. This chain typically does pretty well in the Florida heat simply because of the deeper waters it has. Every one of the 12 lakes out here will have at least one drop off going to at least 20 feet deep, which is a very good area for bass to stack up at times as the water heats up.

Our main targets on this chain as of late have been areas on Lake Down and the main lake, Lake Butler itself. Both of these lakes seem to have the cleanest water on the chain, and both have been seeing some very good schooling activity as of late. Live wild shiners have done good out here, but the heavy hitter has been the artificial baits. Flukes and senko type baits have been very good out here, as well as the trout and fire tiger pattern steel shads.

Lake Down has been very productive out in the mid lake area where there is some good topped out vegetation. Flukes worked thru it has been a very good way to catching some quality bass. Lake Butler has been the same way, fishing the deeper waters and the drop offs has been the ticket to catching the bass. Water temperatures have slowly been coming down, rain mixed with a few days of some good overcast has helped drop water temperatures some and seems to have made the bass much more active.

Forecast for September bass fishing is looking good. Previous years have been productive and we fully expect this year to be no different. With the amount of schooling action we have been seeing, we see no reason why the action will slow down any time soon. The Orlando bass fishing guides cover a vast amount of great bass fishing waters. Most all of these waters are just a matter of minutes from all three major theme parks, Walt Disney World, Sea World and Universal Studios.Having been fishing these waters now for 30 years, I have seen a lot of changes to the landscape and how the fishing has changed. Everyone who is “diehard” when it comes to bass fishing, or any kind of fishing, knows, especially in lakes, that bass will shut down at times on one body of water, but 20 miles away will be feeding aggressively. This is just a natural cycle of Mother Nature, and for those who keep their focus on one single body of water, can mean for more “off” fishing days than needed. This is why I am always on the go, working as many bodies of water as possible, with my main three lakes being the World Famous Trophy Bass Lake, Lake Toho, East Lake Toho, which over the years has been a tougher lake to fish, but has made a very nice comeback, and last but not least, Butler Chain.

Although our main focus is on Lake Toho, which is located in Kissimmee Florida, this great body of water is only 20 minutes from our Orlando bass fishing guides and it’s well known trophy bass that are caught here. Most will focus on using live wild shiners to target these trophy bass, but rest assured you do not have to use live bait to catch these bass. Lake Toho, like any other body of water you fish with me, I will tell you your best chances at landing Florida largemouth bass, whether it is with live bait or artificial lures. You will never be forced to use baits you either do not wish to use, or lures you are not sure how to use. Over the years that I have been guiding clients on these waters, I have had several clients who have never fished before, ask to do it with artificial baits, and they have done just fine. If your guide knows the waters you are fishing, he should be able to instruct you with no problem.

East Lake Toho is yet another very good body of water. Although it is more bowl shaped in its layout, and on days of higher winds can be very rough, this body of water has been fishing very good. For many years it has been referred to as a “live bait” lake. If you follow my Bass Fishing Videos page closely, you will see a bunch of videos from East Lake Toho done this year, these bass were all caught on artificial lures and the action was pretty steady during the day. Everything from soft plastics to crank baits has been catching bass out here for us.East Lake Toho has something most other lakes do not have. The ability to take a break in the middle of the day for a good sit down lunch. East Lake Fish Camp has a great restaurant which is on the Northern side of the lake, and Crabby Bills, located on the southern end of the lake. Both have great food at good prices.

The last lake for our Orlando bass fishing guides to cover over the 10 years has been The Butler Chain of Lakes. This chain of lakes is nestled in the beautiful town of Windermere Florida. Some locals call it the land of the rich and famous, as people such as Shaq, Tiger Woods and Arnold Palmer live out on this chain. These waters too many will fish more like northern waters. Deeper than the typical Florida Lakes, every lake in this 12 lake chain will have at least one deep drop off to 20 feet, with one of the deeper holes being on Lake Down, reaching up to 44 feet deep. This has been a great place for everyone to work on all the different way of bass fishing. Live wild shiners is always a good bait out here, but with all the docks and drop offs out here, it allows the angler to work with drop shot, Carolina rigs, swim baits and crank baits. Another great way to build a future bass anglers confidence is with a wacky rig bait out here around the docks and grass beds. I personally have helped many anglers, just trying to get started out with bass fishing, work that wacky rig and catch a bunch of great bass. The perfect way to hook a future angler by building their confidence level in what they are doing.

Lake Toho Bass Fishing

Pete lands a nice largemouth bass on Lake Toho using wild shiners. Wild shiners are probably one of the best ways to land bass out on Lake Toho, and during spawning season it is one of the most popular ways to land the Trophy Largemouth Bass out here.

East Lake Toho Bass Fishing

Hit the waters of East Lake Toho for a few hours this morning with Jack.

We ran around a little bit marking a few areas of topped out hydrilla and located a bunch of great off shore grass beds. There was a some action on the surface with bass chasing bait fish around, but it was limited to early morning hours. Our main focus was hitting those off shore grass areas and they paid off pretty good.

Although the bass were a little scattered around, if you were in their general area they were more than happy to take the offerings we had for the. Several bass were boated with soft plastics. Using a wacky rig and lizard but the main baits were a rapala crank bait and the Azuma Shaker Z. Water levels out here looked great and water clarity was perfect. Will be hitting East Lake again soon to toss a few prototype lures around to get them fine tuned.

Lake Toho Bass Fishing

Got an early start this morning out on Lake Toho. The guys wanted to use live bait today so we meet up at Lake Toho Marina and grabbed a couple dozen wild shiners. We had hit a few areas that had been producing bass for us, mostly on the northern end of Lake Toho. We had a couple misses working the grass lines along Lakeshore drive, before we moved over to Gobblets Cove. Some very good hydrilla out here holding some quality bass along the edges. Pitching the shiners next to the edges is always a good bet.

We worked the residential canal for a few hours, with a few misses and a couple boated, along with this nice solid keeper, definitely a good anchor bass. Winds were calm the first part of the day, but believe me, they picked up pretty good. Once the winds picked up, the bite seemed to have dropped off. Have a 4 hour run out on Butler Chain tomorrow, another great body of water that has been producing pretty good.

Lake Toho Bass Fishing-Orlando Bass Fishing

Mid March has seen some great bass fishing action. This stretch has been split up between Lake Toho and Butler Chain.

The trips have been a mix of live wild shiners as well as all artificial bait trips. Wild shiners have been either slow trolled of the back of the boat, in areas we know either hold bass, or are spawning areas. This has been a very lethal tactic to catching the bass, and is a lot less boring than just plunking an anchor out and sitting in one spot and “waiting” for bass to come to you.

One very often overlooked tactic by many is as you slow troll some live bait off the back of the boat, you can also flip one into pot holes in the grasses or tight up against lily pads or reeds. All too often, this over looked option can keep the bass catching action going steady during the day.

Artificial trips have been yielding between 10 and 20 bass a day. Mostly off senko type baits and worms, but we have got some here lately on shallow running crank baits. Long A’s have been the best along with a few custom ones in bone color. For the most part, bass had seemed to be staging just off their spawning areas but have been moving in, with some really nice ones on beds, just seem to be a little spookier this year than in years past. Good polarized glasses are huge key to sneak up on the beds, along with a very silent approach. Just remember if you catch a bass from a bed, PLEASE handle her very carefully, take that picture and gently slide her right back in the water.
