Most all of these waters are just a matter of minutes from all three major theme parks, Walt Disney World, Sea World and Universal Studios.Having been fishing these waters now for 30 years, I have seen a lot of changes to the landscape and how the fishing has changed. From the old days of a simple Beetle spin to the swim baits of today.

I take a lot of pride in what I do for a living, guiding people of all walks of life to some great days on these beautiful waters we have to offer. Everyone who is “diehard” when it comes to bass fishing, or any kind of fishing, knows, especially in lakes, that bass will shut down at times on one body of water, but 20 miles away will be feeding aggressively. This is just a natural cycle of Mother Nature, and for those who keep their focus on one single body of water, can mean for more “off” fishing days than needed. This is why I am always on the go, working as many bodies of water as possible, with my main three lakes being the World Famous Trophy Bass Lake, Lake Toho, East Lake Toho, which over the years has been a tougher lake to fish, but has made a very nice comeback, and last but not least, Butler Chain.

Catch'em with our Orlando Bass Fishing GuidesAlthough our main focus is on Lake Toho, which is located in Kissimmee Florida, this great body of water is only 20 minutes from our Orlando bass fishing guides and it’s well known trophy bass that are caught here. Most will focus on using live wild shiners to target these trophy bass, but rest assured you do not have to use live bait to catch these bass. Lake Toho, like any other body of water you fish with me, I will tell you your best chances at landing Florida largemouth bass, whether it is with live bait or artificial lures. You will never be forced to use baits you either do not wish to use, or lures you are not sure how to use. Over the years that I have been guiding clients on these waters, I have had several clients who have never fished before, ask to do it with artificial baits, and they have done just fine. If your guide knows the waters you are fishing, he should be able to instruct you with no problem.

East Lake Toho is yet another very good body of water. Although it is more bowl shaped in its layout, and on days of higher winds can be very rough, this body of water has been fishing very good. For many years it has been referred to as a “live bait” lake. If you follow my Bass Fishing Videos page closely, you will see a bunch of videos from East Lake Toho done this year, these bass were all caught on artificial lures and the action was pretty steady during the day. Everything from soft plastics to crank baits has been catching bass out here for us.East Lake Toho has something most other lakes do not have. The ability to take a break in the middle of the day for a good sit down lunch. East Lake Fish Camp has a great restaurant which is on the Northern side of the lake, and Crabby Bills, located on the southern end of the lake. Both have great food at good prices.

This chain of lakes is nestled in the beautiful town of Windermere Florida. Some locals call it the land of the rich and famous, as people such as Shaq, Tiger Woods and Arnold Palmer live out on this chain. These waters too many will fish more like northern waters. Deeper than the typical Florida Lakes, every lake in this 12 lake chain will have at least one deep drop off to 20 feet, with one of the deeper holes being on Lake Down, reaching up to 44 feet deep. This has been a great place for everyone to work on all the different way of bass fishing. Live wild shiners is always a good bait out here, but with all the docks and drop offs out here, it allows the angler to work with drop shot, Carolina rigs, swim baits and crank baits. Another great way to build a future bass anglers confidence is with a wacky rig bait out here around the docks and grass beds. I personally have helped many anglers, just trying to get started out with bass fishing, work that wacky rig and catch a bunch of great bass. The perfect way to hook a future angler by building their confidence level in what they are doing.

Bass Fishing Forecast for February

Trophy Bass FishingFebruary is typically a very good month for trophy bass fishing on Lake Toho and many of the Orlando lakes. Cold fronts coming thru can keep the air temperatures much cooler, so of course dressing in layers is highly recommended for this time of year. A lot of our focus is on World Famous Lake Toho, as this body of water is probably your best option at catching that trophy bass.

Your options for catching bass out here are wide depending on the weather. If we get hit by a cold front, we will consider having a dozen or two of wild shiners on the boat to slow troll behind the boat while we work spawning areas with artificial lures.
Your options for lures will range from ten inch worms to creature baits like craws.

We will target bass beds, but keep in mind that when a bass is caught from a bed we will take a picture and weight fast, and carefully release back into the water gently so we don’t harm her. Many times we have witnessed her go back to her bed, so if done properly she will not be stressed out and abort her eggs as many claim they do. We are also strictly catch and release with all bass, replicas of your catch are usually one dollar per inch more than a skin mount and will last forever.

World Famous Lake Toho Trophy Bass Fishing starts on covering 18,810 acres of what is indisputably some of the best trophy bass fishing in the State of Florida, and with very good reason. This amazing body of water can, on any given day or any given cast reward an angler with a 10 pound bass, what everyone considers a trophy bass, or a catch of a lifetime for many.

With many options for Lake Toho Trophy Bass Fishing, catching these trophy bass on wild shiners to crank baits, one thing is for sure, the possibilities are endless, the fun and excitement has no boundaries.  Tournament anglers flock from around the country to fish tournaments here. Whether it be a B.A.S.S tournament, FLW, Extreme Bass or local club tournaments, these directors hold their tournaments here for a very good reason, BIG BASS!

Lake Toho Trophy Bass Fishing is fantastic depending on what time of year you wish to fish Lake Toho can play a role on the numbers, or the quality of the bass you will catch. Now everyone knows the summer months for bass fishing can be tough with the extreme heat, many anglers feel that the bass just won’t bite. This is very far from the truth. Generally the summer months the bass fishing will still be productive in the early morning hours and late afternoon. Many will say “the big gals bite early or late” but I can assure you they will bite all day long. Most of my biggest bass, 7 to 10 pounds have come between the hours of 11am and 3 pm, right in the heat of the day!
Fall and winter are probably some of the best times to bass fish on Lake Toho. Cold fronts will roll into Central Florida, lowering our air temperatures and also dropping our water temperatures. This will trigger baitfish, shad and shiners to bunch up in pods making them an easy target for largemouth bass to ambush. This will trigger the bass feeding frenzy as they fatten up for the spawn, which typically starts early January and will last sometimes into May.

Lake Toho Trophy BassSpawn season is typically our busiest time of year, as this is generally one of the best times for people to get a chance to go Lake Toho Trophy Bass Fishing and focus on catching a trophy bass on Lake Toho. Many anglers, even the most experienced, will request live wild shiners as their bait of choice just to increase the chances of them catching that Trophy Bass that many anglers may spend many years trying to catch.
Spring can be just absolutely off the hook bass fishing! Lake Toho Trophy Bass Fishing have finished their spawn by then, and what are they looking to do? Well this is the time that trophy bass once again go on a major feeding frenzy! They have laid their eggs and for the most part remained dormant, as they remain close to the bed, watching over the buck bass guarding the nest. Now if the buck has been caught and not released, the female bass will return to guard the nest. Once the spawn is complete for her, she will start feeding up to regain strength, and these gals can be very aggressive when they feed. This will make for some seriously fun bass fishing.

laketohobassThere is good reason these bass make it to 10 pounds or better, they are smart! We know the waters we fish, but remember, they know the waters they live in. Many may find that statement laughable, but think about it. Many big bass are not caught in wide open waters. They are usually caught from beds, which can be close to or even under docks. Close to or in openings in grass beds, or in and around sunken timber. Now when you hook one of these gals, they will make a run for cover, Hitting that dock, trying to get to thick cover, or tangling you up in that timber. That to me, and many other pro anglers says these bass are smart. It’s not just a matter of setting a hook, and reeling her in.

We must always remember when you do catch a spawning bass to handle her with extreme care. Please take that picture fast, supporting her belly and gently releasing her back into the waters. These trophy bass are also our “breeding stock” as we like to call them. It’s their gene that helps map our future in the bass fishing industry, and when these trophy bass are released alive and well it will increase the next bass anglers’ chances at also catching that bass of a lifetime, and who knows, that next angler could be your own son or daughter.
