We had the great pleasure of having Melanie and Ravi out for the morning on Johns Lake. Live wild shiners was the bait of choice with all the rains we have been getting as of late, and it was the perfect choice. The schooling action was fast and furious out here as Melanie starting the day swinging bass over the side of the boat at a pretty good pace.
Ravi was being patient as he knew his bass would come, after a few misses Ravi got his over the side of the boat and it was a good one. Turns out it was not only his first fish he caught in 8 years, but also his first ever bass before heading back to India. Schooling action held steady for about two hours, key way to catching them with the wild shiners was to freeline the bait. Johns Lake has always had some great action, and we fully expect it to continue on right thru the summer as usual.
Bass fishing on Lake Jackson has been off the hook folks! Eric and Russ came with me for their second day of bass fishing and Lake Jackson showed them why Florida is the Bass Fishing Capital of the World! Live wild shiners produced not only numbers but some good size as well. Once the live bait was gone, we switched up to flukes and the bass kept on biting for them. We had good cloud cover today and a breeze all day long so it made the fishing great. Flukes were tossed to the back side of lily pads and skipped across the top, if that didn’t trigger a bite we let them fall on the outside edge and that would get the strike. Big smiles and a lot of fish CATCHING stories for these two guys to tell for a while
Central Florida Bass Fishing has been going strong this month. Most of our trips have been done on Lake Jackson as of late and this lake has been producing some great numbers of bass, as well as some pretty good sized bass. The lake was getting choked out pretty bad with the lily pads, almost to the point is was limiting the areas we could get to but with the spaying that was done, the pads are disappearing and has opened up a lot more areas to catch these trophy bass out here.
Artificial baits have been doing pretty good. Spinner baits and red eye shads have been getting some very nice quality bass out here. Some of the bass we have started to notice some sores on their under side, classic sign they are starting to fan some beds. We have also caught a few bass that showed signs of filling up with eggs. These bass are starting to get some good sized bellies to them.
Central Florida Bass fishing is still on fire folks. Artificial bait trips are producing some good numbers as well as size. Live bait trips have been off the hook. Lake Jackson has been the hot place to be with my clients boating up to 40 bass in 4 hours of bass fishing using live wild shiners. Live bait has been free lined working around lily pads and hydrilla and the bass have been responding very good. Combination trips have seen us burn off 4 dozen shiners in 2 hours with 30 bass making it over the side of the boat.
. Even with higher winds the bass have still been playing great for us. Live wild shiners pitched to the edges of the lily pads have been not only producing good numbers of bass, but some good size as well.
The bass have just been slamming our offerings and the size is getting bigger. We have been seeing more and more bass with sores on the tail end, meaning there is some bed fanning going on and these bass are starting to get some nice bellies. Artificial baits have been doing pretty good as well. Several nice bass have come over the side of the boat using spinner baits, red eye shad and the best bass was nailed on a swim bait. Corey was working his swim bait nice a slow, actually crawling it along the bottom when his big bass slammed it and gave him one heck of a fight. He did manage another nice one working the swim bait a little closer to the surface and thru the pads.
The month of September is typically one of our hottest months of the year. For this reason, most people will feel the bass fishing will not be any good. I am here to tell you this is far from the truth. The early morning bite is typically a very good bite, hitting the water early does benefit the angler, not only with the bass biting, but also the chance to help avoid the heat.
Water levels were definitely much lower than my previous trip out here, maybe one day the state of Florida water Mismanagement will leave a good thing alone, but I highly doubt that. Despite the lower levels the lake is very safe to travel around, and the bass were definitely more than will to play. Great thing being, all the bass caught today were right in the two to three pound range, and very scrappy fighters.
