Florida Bass Fishing Report Week Ending Feb 18th

Paul on day three had his good friend Dave join us on Lake Jackson once again. Dave started out working live bait while Paul worked an arsenal of artificial baits. Tossing creature baits from zoom brush hogs to the Gene Larew Biffle Bug Paul worked it hard. Main artificial baits to produce once again was the senko type baits.

Dave had been catching some good numbers using live wild shiners and we slowly switched him over to the Yum Dinger as he had not bass fished in as he says about 20 years. Well let me tell ya folks, Dave hooked a sweet bass that would have been an easy 10 pounder with no doubts, but the hook pulls out just a matter of feet from the boat. Just minutes later Dave is working the Yum Dinger perfect, as a massive wake comes along and SLAMS his bait and the fight is on!

Dave was working this bass perfect, she was definitely bigger than the one he had already lost on the pulled hook, and as her back came out of the water all I could think was she is even bigger than the 11.4 pound I had caught. This baby started rippin drag and makin the reel screen, and then it happened, she got around the one darn grass patch just ten feet from the boat, wrapped herself around and shook loose. Paul and I could have sat on the deck and cried, and Dave says “ That was cool!!”

It was a great bass fishing day despite the two trophy bass getting away from us, and will definitely be a day Paul and Dave will never forget. Paul is back home in Texas and has already called me to tell me he is planning his return trip for next year.

Florida Bass Fishing Mid Feb 2011

Bill and Thurman came down from Indiana for some Florida Bass Fishing. Cool weather kept the bite off some for us and we did have to work a little harder than normal to get our catch, but the guys did manage to catch a few here and there. Lakes we worked were Lake Jackson and Lake Cypress. Spinner baits and senko type baits were the main baits we used to catch our bass on these two days.

Bass were mainly relating to areas with Kissimmee grass and hydrilla. The hydrilla was holding some good action, just getting them to bust our baits under the blue bird skies made the bite a slow and soft one. Early morning fog was very think, delaying our start on day two by over an hour, with us still having to work areas right by the boat launch for safety reasons. We love catching bass, but safety always comes first on my boat.

Paul hit the sunshine state for the 4^th year now to fish another three days in search of that trophy bass. Paul likes doing it the old fashioned way, all artificial and on day one we hit Lake Jackson. Once again the fog rolled in on us but atleast this time there was no delay in the start to our venture of catching that trophy bass. Hitting an area on the lake that has not only been holding some great numbers of bass, but some very good size as well, it was a bass fishing and catching day out here.

We had a great day on the water, and had several casts were we spooked up some very big bass, but could not get these gals to connect with us. Once again the hot bait was a senko type bait worked tight to cover and around the scattered grass patches. Picture perfect weather with just the right amount of cloud cover made for a very good day out here.

Day two we hit Lake Kissimmee and it was the complete opposite as far as the cloud cover went. Blue Bird skies and a much tougher bite. Everything was pin point casting with us boat a few bass here and there. Today we had mixed it up some with live and artificial baits working every water column you could. Two foot of water to eight foot of water, with no clouds and no breeze we had to work it hard.

Lake Jackson Bass Fishing

We have been doing a lot of bass fishing on Lake Jackson which is just south of Saint Cloud Florida. This body of water has a lot of lily pad coverage and some very healthy hydrilla. This combination means for some great bass fishing. Artificial baits have been doing very good out here and you can really catch some good numbers from one to three pound bass. But don’t be fooled, this place has a good amount of big bass as well. October 1^st 2010 saw a ten pound bass come over the side of the boat using a Strike King Red Eye Shad and several bass in the six pound range have also been caught using live wild shiners as well as artificial lures.

The two bass boated in this video are only two of the twenty five bass I caught that day using a mix of artificial baits. Strike King Red Eye Shads, Spro baits, Bass Pro Shops Stick O baits and flukes have been great baits to use out here. For the soft plastic lures, junebug and watermelon red have been very good colors. I have also been using some of my own hand poured worms out here and they have been really banging some good numbers as well. The worms I have been using are roughly 4 ½ inch worms with a small bullet weight and just slowly crawling them along the bottom and pulled thru the hydrilla. This has been the hot ticket to catching not only the numbers, but some quality three and four pound bass as well.

With the cooler weather the spinner bait bite has been turning on very good as well. Slow rolled thru the lily pads has been great, as the bass have been stacking up in these areas and have been hitting the spinner baits very aggressively. We have had some success with swim baits out here as well. The Lake Fork Live Magic Shad has caught some very nice bass, so don’t shy away from using swim baits.

Bass Fishing Forceast for October

October Bass Fishing in Central Florida is off the hook folks! This is the time of year when we generally get our first cool front of the year, which not only helps to bring down the air temperatures, but it will also lower the temperature of the water in our lakes. Bass fishing will be good on all of our lakes, Lake Toho, Lake Kissimmee and Butler Chain of lakes just to name a few.

Here in Florida we have year round bass fishing, which means trophy bass can be caught all year long, but your best chances are when the weather starts cooling off and the bass really start feeding up for the spawn. October is usually the start of some very good schooling action, as the bass start really feeding up on the shad and wild shiners in our lakes.

One of the best baits to use this time of year is no doubt the wild shiner, these baits will not only produce some good numbers, but some great sized bass as well. Many anglers prefer not to use live bait, and opt for the artificial baits, and that always works for us. Top baits will definitely be top water lures early on in the day, switching off to spinner baits and soft plastics during the day. Just remember, even as the day warms up, it’s not hot like it is during the summer months, so that top water lure can work for you the entire day.

Bass will be hitting the shallower waters now that things are cooling off for us, and the toads and senko type baits are really going to start putting some quality bass into the boat for some great pictures. Kissimmee Chain Bass Fishing-Florida Bass Fishing Guides

Bass fishing on the Kissimmee Chain of lakes has been great! Most of our trips have been artificial bait trip and they have been producing good numbers of bass, 20 to 30 bass in a day, with some good size mixed in.Bass coming in at or just over 5 pounds have been common with the typical schoolie sized bass mixed in to help keep the action steady throughout the day.

The typical trip using artificial baits has been tossing a lot of senko type baits but the bigger bass as of late have been coming on a 7 inch ribbon tail in June bug color. The bass we have been catching have been mostly scattered but have been holding to a steady pattern of holding tight to scattered grass patches and areas of thinned out lily pads.

Red Eye shad and steel shad have been very good at producing some good numbers in open water areas, and ripped thru the scattered hydrilla. We have been tossing some top water plugs, and the Strike King Rage Tail but the bass have not responded too well to these baits as of yet. Water temperatures in the morning have been in the mid 70’s so maybe a few more degrees and they will light up on the top water. We fully expect the top water bite to light up like it did for us last year.

Live bait trips out here have been doing pretty much the same. We have been working mainly areas of 3 to 6 foot of water and slow trolling the shiner about 2 foot under a cork. With more productive spots I have deployed the dig in anchor, which slides in fast, easy and quiet and we have worked over the area really good before moving to the next spot. Key areas with the live bait have been the spots holding more hydrilla than any other type of cover.

Orlando Bass Fishing Sept 1st 2010

Orlando Bass Fishing

Orlando bass fishing has been doing very good the past 2 weeks. Most of the Orlando bass fishing trips have been done on Butler Chain of Lakes. This chain typically does pretty well in the Florida heat simply because of the deeper waters it has. Every one of the 12 lakes out here will have at least one drop off going to at least 20 feet deep, which is a very good area for bass to stack up at times as the water heats up.

Our main targets on this chain as of late have been areas on Lake Down and the main lake, Lake Butler itself. Both of these lakes seem to have the cleanest water on the chain, and both have been seeing some very good schooling activity as of late. Live wild shiners have done good out here, but the heavy hitter has been the artificial baits. Flukes and senko type baits have been very good out here, as well as the trout and fire tiger pattern steel shads.

Lake Down has been very productive out in the mid lake area where there is some good topped out vegetation. Flukes worked thru it has been a very good way to catching some quality bass. Lake Butler has been the same way, fishing the deeper waters and the drop offs has been the ticket to catching the bass. Water temperatures have slowly been coming down, rain mixed with a few days of some good overcast has helped drop water temperatures some and seems to have made the bass much more active.

Forecast for September bass fishing is looking good. Previous years have been productive and we fully expect this year to be no different. With the amount of schooling action we have been seeing, we see no reason why the action will slow down any time soon.
