Lake Toho Bass Fishing has been great. Wild shiners and steel shad have been catching largemouth bass at a steady pace.

Bass fishing in Florida is always a great way to spend some time relaxing on the water with the family. In this video Bob was having a blast catching bass on Lake Toho using not only live bait but also SteelShad. The steelshad have been an awesome lure for us for catching not only bass but also some slab sized crappie. This is probably one of the easiest lures to use, just simply pulling it out of the package and tying it on and your good to go. Bob was tossing this lure close to hydrilla and working it along the outside edge of the weed beds and was having a blast with some steady bass fishing action.

Lake Toho bass fishing over the past few months has been pretty steady. Bass have been relating heavily to hydrilla and the Kissimmee grass with a lot of the action coming on the north end of the lake. This area has held some of the best looking and healthy hydrilla which not only helps keep the water cleaner, but will also hold a lot of bait fish, which in turn will attract the bass.

When your fishing these areas, one of the most productive baits, is of course the wild shiner. Many people will prefer to use the live bait as at times it will make catching those trophy bass easier. Anglers who come for those trophy bass will not always want to use live bait though, and we will give them the options and inform them as to the best chance at catching not only some good numbers, but size as well. Just a few of the hot baits have been the senko type baits, zoom flukes, speed craws and rattle trap type baits.

Corey got slammed by this bass, using a steel shad, catching him off guard as it hit just feet from the boat. Lake Toho Largemouth bass have been feeding good for us. 

Lake Toho is always some fun bass fishing. One thing we try to follow is depending on the type of lure you are using, always try to keep an eye on things, working it all the way back to the boat. Corey was working the Steelshad on Lake Toho when he got caught off guard, his bass smacked the lure just a matter of feet from the boat. Close enough to the point he really didn’t even have a chance to set the hook on her, as she hit and tried to turn, setting the hook on herself.

This is something that actually happens quiet a lot in bass fishing, I personally have worked a lure, a senko type bait all the way back to the boat, and as I was lifting it out of the water, BAM a bass blows out of the water after it, just missing it.

Typically on Lake Toho there are always a few lures that always seem to catch bass, such as SteelShad, Red eye shads, senko type baits and flukes just to name a few. The one bait that always seems to produce, even in the toughest of conditions is the wild shiner. These baits will run anywhere from 3 inches to what seems like 2 pounds in size and have been awesome when targeting some of those trophy bass that everyone knows Lake Toho has.

When you fish the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes, try not to limit yourself to just Lake Toho, there are several lakes on the chain and believe me they all will hold some seriously big bass. That is the reason Florida is called The Bass Fishing Capital of the world!

Bass Fishing Forecast for June

shallow crankbaitJune is the start of our heat, and most people think the bass fishing season is over. This is far from the truth. Early morning action is still very good. Live wild shiners will still get good numbers of bass and some scattered size to five pounds. As the temperatures warm up during the day, the bite will get more scattered, but with targeted casting you can still catch largemouth bass during the heat of the day.

tube baitLake Toho bass fishing is world famous for catching trophy bass, even during the summer months. This is where flipping and pitching will come in handy. Your focus in the heat of the day will turn to focusing on grass beds and floating mats, either punching thru or pitching your baits into “potholes” to target trophy bass. Idea baits are creature baits and tube baits.

Open water areas, with deeper waters holding submerged hydrilla will also be good areas to produce bass. These areas you can slow roll spinner baits, use shallow running crank baits and work ten inch worms to keep the action steady.

Bass Fishing Forecast for March

March is always a good month in Florida for Trophy Bass. Not only can you catch them on wild shiners, but you can also catch them on top water lures. Buzzbaits and toads will draw some vicious strikes and some fun action on the waters of Lake Toho and the entire Kissimmee Chain.

Gitem Toad for trophy bass fishingRattle Traps, spinner baits and crank baits will make for some very exciting action on Orlando area lakes, catching bass on a regular basis throughout the day. Lizards, worms and senko type baits will also produce some quality bass and this is also the time of year when our cold fronts are reduced to cool fronts. Largemouth bass will be once again schooling up and feeding heavily on natural lake forage like shad and wild shiners, which also makes them an easy target for us to catch.

Lake Toho bass fishing is one of our main focuses, with such a wide range of cover to fish, from lily pads to hydrilla beds, to floating mats in mid lake, there is always some type of action going on.

Bass Fishing Forecast for January

The Spawn is on! This is the official start of the bass spawning season. Largemouth bass have feed up good the previous two months and have taken their place in the spawning areas to nest. Here in Florida we have a very great spawning season, starting in January and running into March and sometimes April. We have on rare occasion caught a bass from a bed as late as May!
This is our major spawn, as bass beds will be scattered all over our lakes in waters ranging from as shallow as a foot deep to sometimes twelve feet deep depending on the body of water you may be fishing on.Johns lake bass

Wild shiners are usually the bait of choice, as bass will attack them if they get anywhere near the beds. Although wild shiners are not always required to catch these trophy bass, they can at times make things easier. Creature baits worked on beds holding bass can and will produce vicious strikes from big females, as they protect the nest. Numbers of bass caught will remain steady, but size will increase, as it is not uncommon to consistently catch bass from five to seven pounds on a daily basis, and here in Florida, especially during the spawn, any given cast can result in that trophy bass of ten pounds or more.

Lake Toho and Johns Lake are very well known for producing some amazing catches during the spawn, with five bass limits easily approaching 30 pounds during tournaments. This is probably one of our best and without a doubt one of the busiest months for bass fishing. So if your looking to fish, you may want to consider booking soon.

Lake Toho Trophy Bass Fishing is fantastic depending on what time of year you wish to fish Lake Toho can play a role on the numbers, or the quality of the bass you will catch. Now everyone knows the summer months for bass fishing can be tough with the extreme heat, many anglers feel that the bass just won’t bite. This is very far from the truth. Generally the summer months the bass fishing will still be productive in the early morning hours and late afternoon. Many will say “the big gals bite early or late” but I can assure you they will bite all day long. Most of my biggest bass, 7 to 10 pounds have come between the hours of 11am and 3 pm, right in the heat of the day!
Fall and winter are probably some of the best times to bass fish on Lake Toho. Cold fronts will roll into Central Florida, lowering our air temperatures and also dropping our water temperatures. This will trigger baitfish, shad and shiners to bunch up in pods making them an easy target for largemouth bass to ambush. This will trigger the bass feeding frenzy as they fatten up for the spawn, which typically starts early January and will last sometimes into May.

Many anglers, even the most experienced, will request live wild shiners as their bait of choice just to increase the chances of them catching that Trophy Bass that many anglers may spend many years trying to catch.
Spring can be just absolutely off the hook bass fishing! Lake Toho Trophy Bass Fishing have finished their spawn by then, and what are they looking to do? Well this is the time that trophy bass once again go on a major feeding frenzy! They have laid their eggs and for the most part remained dormant, as they remain close to the bed, watching over the buck bass guarding the nest. Now if the buck has been caught and not released, the female bass will return to guard the nest. Once the spawn is complete for her, she will start feeding up to regain strength, and these gals can be very aggressive when they feed. This will make for some seriously fun bass fishing.

laketohobassThere is good reason these bass make it to 10 pounds or better, they are smart! We know the waters we fish, but remember, they know the waters they live in. Many may find that statement laughable, but think about it. Many big bass are not caught in wide open waters. They are usually caught from beds, which can be close to or even under docks. Close to or in openings in grass beds, or in and around sunken timber. Now when you hook one of these gals, they will make a run for cover, Hitting that dock, trying to get to thick cover, or tangling you up in that timber. That to me, and many other pro anglers says these bass are smart. It’s not just a matter of setting a hook, and reeling her in.

We must always remember when you do catch a spawning bass to handle her with extreme care. Please take that picture fast, supporting her belly and gently releasing her back into the waters. These trophy bass are also our “breeding stock” as we like to call them. It’s their gene that helps map our future in the bass fishing industry, and when these trophy bass are released alive and well it will increase the next bass anglers’ chances at also catching that bass of a lifetime, and who knows, that next angler could be your own son or daughter.
