October Bass Fishing in Central Florida is off the hook folks! This is the time of year when we generally get our first cool front of the year, which not only helps to bring down the air temperatures, but it will also lower the temperature of the water in our lakes. Bass fishing will be good on all of our lakes, Lake Toho, Lake Kissimmee and Butler Chain of lakes just to name a few.
Here in Florida we have year round bass fishing, which means trophy bass can be caught all year long, but your best chances are when the weather starts cooling off and the bass really start feeding up for the spawn. October is usually the start of some very good schooling action, as the bass start really feeding up on the shad and wild shiners in our lakes.
One of the best baits to use this time of year is no doubt the wild shiner, these baits will not only produce some good numbers, but some great sized bass as well. Many anglers prefer not to use live bait, and opt for the artificial baits, and that always works for us. Top baits will definitely be top water lures early on in the day, switching off to spinner baits and soft plastics during the day. Just remember, even as the day warms up, it’s not hot like it is during the summer months, so that top water lure can work for you the entire day.
Bass will be hitting the shallower waters now that things are cooling off for us, and the toads and senko type baits are really going to start putting some quality bass into the boat for some great pictures. Be sure to check out our two and three day bass fishing trip specials. These trips become very popular this time of year and folks have a blast catching bass.
Lake Toho will see a lot of boat traffic, as everyone is really having a great time catching bass, and for those who just want to relax, the shiner bite is always good, but keep in mind you don’t always get to just relax, because the bass will be hammering those shiners!
Spinner baits and blade baits, like the steel shad will also be very effective lures to use to catch schooling bass.
ORLANDO, Fla. (Nov. 23, 2009) – The University of Florida team of Jake Gipson and Matthew Wercinski both of Niceville, Fla., won the National Guard FLW College Fishing Southeast Regional Championship on Lake Monroe with five bass weighing 7 pounds, 12 ounces on Monday with a three-day total of 16 bass weighing 30-1. For their efforts, the team won a Ranger 177TR with a 90-horsepower Evinrude or Yamaha outboard wrapped in school colors and $25,000 for the University of Florida.
Gitem toads and torpedoes getting some good action.
November is shaping up to be a great month for bass fishing. Temperatures, water and air are cooling down, making it much nicer to fish than the hot summer months, and with the cooler waters, bass are getting much more active. Live bait bite should be good as usual, and we should have some good top water action as well. Schooling action is typically good in November and we fully expect it to carry on right thru the end of the year. Just take a look at the pictures from previous Novembers and this is what you can expect to happen on any give cast. This is also the time to really start considering that Crappie trip, slabs will be plenty and makes for a very exciting time on the water as well as bass fishing.
The first half of October has already seen some very good bass fishing action with some good catches. Most of our time has been spent on Butler Chain this month along with some scouting of other local lakes. For the most part bass have been tighter to cover on Butler Chain. We have caught a lot of bass working grass beds and docks with some bass coming from submerged structure in deeper waters.
There has been scattered schooling action out on several lakes on Butler Chain, with Lake Tibet and Lake Sheen being the top producers for us, with Steel Shads and 1 ounce spinner baits catching quality and numbers from these schools.
