Florida Bass Fishing Report May and June
Lake Toho has been fishing pretty good for us. All artificial fishing trips out here for us as of late and the bass have been playing good for us.
Bass we have been targeting have been hanging around scattered grass and hydrilla mostly on the northern end of the lake. Flukes and senko type baits have been great baits to use, as well as spinner baits and early morning the top water plugs have also been very good for us. We have been getting some limited action on swim baits
We have been doing pretty good out on Lake Jackson. Wild shiners have been catching a lot of bass out here and some good sized bass as well. Steve came out with us today for a couple hours of some of Florida’s best bass fishing and did it all with artificial lures. Numbers were down some but believe me the smiles Steve had when he caught his new personal best just over six pounds on a senko type bait made for a great day. This toad did a lot of jumping and put on a great show for Steve today. Early morning bite remains the best action as things will slow down some close to high noon. This does not mean fishing is off, just means we slow down the presentation and target certain areas a little harder to keep catching the bass!
Johns Lake has also been doing very good. Brian and Ryan Taylor came for some bass fishing with live wild shiners. Early arrival was the big key to catching bass out here today. The typical schooling bass were where they were supposed to be as usual and made for some good action for the day. The guys were surprised to see all the bass that were schooling as they said they never really see much bass jumping around back home in Ohio.
We had two strikes at a chatterbait during the day, but with the front rolling in the live bait was the definite way to go today out here. Once the wind picked up, the bite shut down. Great day of bass fishing and looking forward to seeing the guys back again next year in June.
Florida Bass Fishing Report March and April 2011
What can I say, the months of March and April have seen some very good bass fishing. We have been hitting several different bodies of water. East Lake Toho had been doing good for us for a good stretch and then the action started to slow down a bit too much for my liking. Spinner baits, flukes and stick baits had been the hot ticket baits out here until things slowed down.
We made the move to Starke Lake in the small town of Ocoee where there was some good action, this place can definitely be a good numbers lake for bass fishing, and if you’re looking to take a break for lunch, the Ocoee Café has some great food, just a matter of minutes from the lake.
Lake Jackson has still been fishing great. Live wild shiners have been producing not only some good number but some darn good sized bass as well. Just ask Vonda Ward, as her and husband Mike came down for some great bass fishing action on Lake Jackson. Vonda had informed me that she had never caught a largemouth bass before, plenty of catfish and such, but never a bass. I told her not to worry she WILL catch some bass, and folks she was on fire! Her first bass of the day, took a little long than expected, maybe 30 minutes but she handled this big gal like a true pro! Gave her one heck of a fight, and in the end she was holding this 7 pound largemouth bass for some pictures and some great memories for sure.
Mike did a great job working the artificial lures himself, catch a scattering of bass around the lake using spinner baits and senko type baits, let me tell you, hats off to the folks at Pure Fishing, for which I am now a team member of, these new Veritas rods we are using have been absolutely awesome, a much lighter rod and tons of hook setting power.
Bass Fishing Forecast for November
November Bass Fishing, Folks this is the time of year we really start to get excited. Cooler weather has finally grabbed a hold of us which makes things very nice when you’re out on the waters of Central Florida chasing after those trophy bass we have down here. Live wild shiners become one of the main baits of choice for many anglers, as they start that search for the big ten pound plus trophy largemouth bass.
Central Florida has the lakes that can and will produce trophy bass every year. Lake Toho being one of the main targets of many anglers, and this great body of water will yield more than its fair share of the lunker bass. Lake Kissimmee will also produce so big monster bass as well. With the main targets being grass beds and skinny waters closer to shore, as the bass are getting closer to spawn time.
Years past we have come across bass beds by the first week of December, but a lot of this will be hinged on how the weather treats us as well. With a steady weather pattern it is very possible to start catching bass from beds by the end of the month, although the spawn generally will not hit full swing until January or February.
Butler Chain and Conway Chain will also be some great bass fishing action. Bother these bodies of water have some of the cleanest waters around, and both are well known for bass schooling action. Both these areas not only hold some of the deeper water action, but they also have a ton of docks that can be fished, and these docks will hold some great bass. We round out Central Florida Bass fishing with Johns Lake. Johns Lake is known for some great bass schooling action and when the spawn hits, this place can compete with Lake Toho when it comes to trophy bass fishing. Don’t forget, we also have some pretty darn good crappie fishing here in Central Florida as well.
Bass Fishing Forceast for October
October Bass Fishing in Central Florida is off the hook folks! This is the time of year when we generally get our first cool front of the year, which not only helps to bring down the air temperatures, but it will also lower the temperature of the water in our lakes. Bass fishing will be good on all of our lakes, Lake Toho, Lake Kissimmee and Butler Chain of lakes just to name a few.
Here in Florida we have year round bass fishing, which means trophy bass can be caught all year long, but your best chances are when the weather starts cooling off and the bass really start feeding up for the spawn. October is usually the start of some very good schooling action, as the bass start really feeding up on the shad and wild shiners in our lakes.
One of the best baits to use this time of year is no doubt the wild shiner, these baits will not only produce some good numbers, but some great sized bass as well. Many anglers prefer not to use live bait, and opt for the artificial baits, and that always works for us. Top baits will definitely be top water lures early on in the day, switching off to spinner baits and soft plastics during the day. Just remember, even as the day warms up, it’s not hot like it is during the summer months, so that top water lure can work for you the entire day.
Bass will be hitting the shallower waters now that things are cooling off for us, and the toads and senko type baits are really going to start putting some quality bass into the boat for some great pictures.
