A third person can be added for a $75.00 fee per day. All the tackle is supplied, cooler, ice and bottled water. Live bait can be used, but there is an extra charge.

Butler Chain and Johns Lake Bass Fishing Report Jan 2009

Ari with a nice bassJanuary bass fishing has been off the hook!  The month started out with a big bang, as Ari came to fish, saying he never caught anything over I believe 5 pounds, well Butler Chain did not let him down. Ari caught two beauties, one coming in just over 7 pounds, and the other coming in just over 6 pounds! Both bass were caught on Butler using live bait, although the bite that day was rather slow, the size more than made up for everything this day.

Shane with a nice bassEarly part of the month I showed a tournament angler around the chain, giving up a few of my good spots, word back from him was as a co-angler, he ended up in second place, while his boater walked away with first place, all the bass coming from the areas I had taken him to, shameless little plug for myself there, but always a pleasure to hear back from guys on how they did in their tournaments, very happy things went great for these guys.

Paul with a nice bassJohns Lake is still producing some good quality bass. Most of our catch has been coming from around docks and deeper water grass beds.Warlocks and Gitem Sugars have been the main producers for us, along with of course the trusty steel shad.We had a few runs out to Conway Chain of lakes and did very good using the Storm curl tail swim bait, steel shad and Carolina rigged gitem warlocks, all bass were coming from deeper waters, with most of our focus coming from fishing in the middle of the lake.

Private water we have been fishing is still producing not only some good bass, but also some very good crappie. Bass have been coming from mid lake areas using mostly steel shads and one ounce spinner baits, shallow waters have been producing with Gitem Warlocks, Gitem KO’s and the Gitem Curly 7’s.Paul Fisler and his nephew HM1 Shane R Gilley came for 3 days of some very entertaining fishing. Paul had been trying to get Shane to join us, and Shane finally got some time off to enjoy the great Florida waters and did an outstanding job catching some bass and crappie. I personally want to thank Shane, as well as all the service men and woman who proudly serve our  great nations armed forces, because if it was not for them, I would not be able to make a living the way I do, God Bless all of you.

Berkley hit the head on the nail when they created this awesome spooling station.As a fishing guide, we tend to spend a lot of time always respooling our reels to make sure we allow our clients the best possible situation when it comes to landing that dream bass. With old line on your reels, it’s just too easy to suffer that heart breaking moment, when you see your bass jump, or get hung in the slop and POOF! The line breaks.

We all know, one of the most tedious parts to bass fishing, is always making sure your line is in good shape, which means constantly having to put fresh line on your reels, which, when you start talking 10 or more reels, can be very time consuming and can take up the better part of the evening.Berkley has made life much easier with the creation of this spooling station, and if for some reason you actually have free time on the water, you can respool a reel in no time at all. This station come complete with the line stripper, which I have used to strip line off of 8 reels at one time, which when your respooling reels every week, will save you a lot of time and probably a lot of money in Band-Aids!Your reels will comfortably sit in the secured handle, spinning reels, bait casters and even for fly reels.

 When you put your spool of line on the bar, you can adjust the tension of the line as it goes on the reel, which also helps eliminate the down time of trolling your line off the back of the boat to get tension on the line and to help eliminate those nasty coils that will eventually get you with a nasty back lash or rats nest.Bonus to the whole deal, you can have your reels spooled up in a fraction of the time it used to take you, which gives you more time on the water doing what your supposed to do, and that’s FISH! I personally bought mine at Bass Pro Shops, but have not seen them listed on their web site as of late, but they can be purchased at your local Wal Mart, or at Wal Mart online.

Crank Bait Bass Fishing

Kevin came down to try to get some video footage catching bass on the bite light lure. When we talked on the phone about setting up a day, Kevin had asked for two days to play it safe, since he had tried once before on Lake Fork, but a cold front had rolled through and the bite had disappeared for them.

I had assured Kevin we were having great weather and there would be no problem accomplishing what he was looking to do. But we still set aside two days for him.

When Kevin arrived at our meeting place, which for this day was Johns Lake, you could not have asked for better weather. Air temperature was perfect, just a little cool to start the day off. We headed to our first spot and Kevin instantly started catching bass on the bite light lure which was a lot like the rattle trap. Am I a believer yet? No I am not, catching a few bass in this area is usually easy as they do like to school up in this area at times.

We moved to our second spot and Kevin switched to the crank bait version of the bite light lure. Water was very calm, and no signs of life around, we did not even see any bait fish on the graph. Kevin started out reeling a little too fast so I signaled for him to slow down his retrieve a little bit, and BAM it was game on, as he boated two quality bass in a short period of time.

The end result was a good number of bass being caught on a lure that I must admit I was pretty skeptical about, but they did end up performing pretty good. The bass today that were caught were all of schooling size bass, but the action was pretty steady, and the guys managed to accomplish what they were looking to do, and in a half a day. So day two was fun fishing.
