Lake Toho Bass Fishing

The first week of March has some good bass fishing on Lake Toho. With our trips being of mixed nature, some with live wild shiners and some with artificial baits

, this body of water has not let us down. Lake Toho has been fishing great this year. Many may think when a cold front hits, you need to switch to wild shiners in order to catch bass, but we have done very good using artificial baits to consistently catch the bass out here. Beds have popped up all over the place out here, in waters from under a foot deep to 5 foot deep. For the most part, the bass we have spotted around them have been cruising around.

Gobblets Cove, Friars Cove and Whaley’s Landing area have been some good hot spots for us. Baits of choice have been 7 and 10 inch worms, steel shads and one ounce spinner baits. Water temperatures have been running from mid to upper 50’s, but with the warming trend we are looking at for the second week of March the waters should be hitting mid 60’s easily. This will trigger some great bass fishing action and make for yet another very productive week out here.

Lake Toho Bass Fishing has been great. Wild shiners and steel shad have been catching largemouth bass at a steady pace.

Bass fishing in Florida is always a great way to spend some time relaxing on the water with the family. In this video Bob was having a blast catching bass on Lake Toho using not only live bait but also SteelShad. The steelshad have been an awesome lure for us for catching not only bass but also some slab sized crappie. This is probably one of the easiest lures to use, just simply pulling it out of the package and tying it on and your good to go. Bob was tossing this lure close to hydrilla and working it along the outside edge of the weed beds and was having a blast with some steady bass fishing action.

Lake Toho bass fishing over the past few months has been pretty steady. Bass have been relating heavily to hydrilla and the Kissimmee grass with a lot of the action coming on the north end of the lake. This area has held some of the best looking and healthy hydrilla which not only helps keep the water cleaner, but will also hold a lot of bait fish, which in turn will attract the bass.

When your fishing these areas, one of the most productive baits, is of course the wild shiner. Many people will prefer to use the live bait as at times it will make catching those trophy bass easier. Anglers who come for those trophy bass will not always want to use live bait though, and we will give them the options and inform them as to the best chance at catching not only some good numbers, but size as well. Just a few of the hot baits have been the senko type baits, zoom flukes, speed craws and rattle trap type baits.

The bass fishing on Lake Toho has been great for us the past week. Wild shiners, artificial plastics and steel shad have been producing not only some good numbers, but some size as well.

We have been launching out of the main ramp and making the long run to the south end of the lake.

Some good largemouth action had been coming from Friars Cove.
Working stickups and reeds have been a big key to catching some quality bass. Craws and Gitem KO’s have been the main producers as far as the plastics go. Steel Shad and spinner baits have also been very big, especially the steel shad in the open water areas that we have hit. There has been some steady schooling action on the southern end of Lake Toho, which has kept us going back for.

West side of the lake has also been a good area for us, slowly swimming either flukes or flappin shads thru the scattered grasses have produced some good strikes, another good bet was working a one ounce spinner bait thru the reeds and thinned out grasses. For the most part, the bite has been a pretty aggressive hit.

Corey got slammed by this bass, using a steel shad, catching him off guard as it hit just feet from the boat. Lake Toho Largemouth bass have been feeding good for us.

Lake Toho is always some fun bass fishing. One thing we try to follow is depending on the type of lure you are using, always try to keep an eye on things, working it all the way back to the boat. Corey was working the Steelshad on Lake Toho when he got caught off guard, his bass smacked the lure just a matter of feet from the boat. Close enough to the point he really didn’t even have a chance to set the hook on her, as she hit and tried to turn, setting the hook on herself.

This is something that actually happens quiet a lot in bass fishing, I personally have worked a lure, a senko type bait all the way back to the boat, and as I was lifting it out of the water, BAM a bass blows out of the water after it, just missing it.

Typically on Lake Toho there are always a few lures that always seem to catch bass, such as SteelShad, Red eye shads, senko type baits and flukes just to name a few. The one bait that always seems to produce, even in the toughest of conditions is the wild shiner. These baits will run anywhere from 3 inches to what seems like 2 pounds in size and have been awesome when targeting some of those trophy bass that everyone knows Lake Toho has.

When you fish the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes, try not to limit yourself to just Lake Toho, there are several lakes on the chain and believe me they all will hold some seriously big bass. That is the reason Florida is called The Bass Fishing Capital of the world!

We hit Lake Toho for some largemouth bass fishing and had a great time again. Catching several bass on various lures from steel shad to soft plastics. Here is a brief video of Rob with his Lake Toho bass caught on a spinner bait.

This day we were out on the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes doing some scouting and trying out different lures. One of the best things about being a Professional Bass Guide is that during our free time, we still enjoying hitting the water and testing out different lures that companies send us. This is only one of the many things that help us stay on top of our game.

As you saw in the video, Rob boated a bass on spinner bait, we had also tossed several different soft plastics, ranging from speed craws to senko type baits. We hit a bunch of different areas that day and managed to boat bass on pretty much every spot we hit, except for two areas. Big key on this day was to hang close to areas of scattered grass beds with some lily pads mixed in.

One of the things that many people will over look is the area they fish and how bass are relating to them. What I mean here is, like I said we were catching bass in areas with scattered grass beds with “some” lily pads mixed in. Areas that were heavier with lily pads this day were not producing, so when we saw an area with the right mixture, we made sure to work it over very good. Always be aware of the surrounds that you are fishing especially when it comes to types of cover mixed together, as sometime this will be a big key to your success for the day. Bass Fishing Forecast for April

Schooling bass fishing action is still here! Early morning top water action is usually off the hook. Even as the day warms up, you will still be able to get some top water action going. The spinner bait bite is a good bet for catching bass throughout the day, as well as using rattle traps and steel shad. This time of year is great bass fishing for everyone. Air temperatures are perfect, not too cool, and not too warm and water temperatures are very stable, making the bass fishing action good.

Lake Toho will see a lot of boat traffic, as everyone is really having a great time catching bass, and for those who just want to relax, the shiner bite is always good, but keep in mind you don’t always get to just relax, because the bass will be hammering those shiners!

One of our go to lures will be the steel shad. This lure has caught a ton of bass for us, and some quality bass up to five pounds. For those still searching for that trophy bass some big largemouth bass can be caught on buzz baits, spinner baits and rattle traps.
