Bass Fishing report first week of March

Florida Bass Fishing GuidesTom and Mike came for some bass fishing action on Lake Jackson and had the perfect weather conditions, minus some cloud cover. Tom has done several trips with me now and has always done a great job at catching some nice bass. Mike was not going to be left behind as we all hit lake Jackson in search of some big florida bass.

We started and ended our day in what I like to call the “back 40” Nothing but slop and shallow water back here, and as long as there is a slight breeze kicking up the bass fishing action is hot!

We had calm winds most of the time but the guys kept on tossing their lures to get their catch of I believe a dozen bass. We saw plenty of big boils on the water, which back here means big bass, but we had a tough time getting them to smack our offerings. June bug and watermelon red senko type baits were the choice bait, as they have been for the better part of two weeks now. You want to catch these bass out here, your best bet is to think shallow water and work tight to cover, flipping has not produced much of anything, but swimming the senkos has been on fire for us.

Florida Bass FishingToday was a run out on Lake Jackson with the Seeger clan. Plan was to start the day out with wild shiners and then start tossing some soft plastics around going after some big bass. First spot we hit was an area that had been producing some good quality bass for us on past trips. Well the bite in that area had slowed to a crawl for us, so we made our move to what I call the back 40 and the bass started to bite.

Lake Jackson Bass FishingIn no time at all we burned through four dozen shiners with everyone catching bass and having a blast. It was no stop entertainment out here with the jokes flying around and everyone setting hooks on some nice bass. We did get the total mix today with some very big bowfin and a couple chain pickerel also being caught.

Once the winds started to pick up we headed deeper into the shallows and worked some soft plastics, mostly Yum Dingers to catch a couple more bass which were hanging tight to cover. The day was made very easy for myself with the Dig In Anchor, as all I had to do was set the anchor and bait the hooks for everyone. Nothing better than a great day on the water and Jim and his family made the day very entertaining and kept me pretty busy netting all the bass they were catching.

Bill and Thurman came down from Indiana for some Florida Bass Fishing. Cool weather kept the bite off some for us and we did have to work a little harder than normal to get our catch, but the guys did manage to catch a few here and there. Lakes we worked were Lake Jackson and Lake Cypress. Spinner baits and senko type baits were the main baits we used to catch our bass on these two days.

Bass were mainly relating to areas with Kissimmee grass and hydrilla. The hydrilla was holding some good action, just getting them to bust our baits under the blue bird skies made the bite a slow and soft one. Early morning fog was very think, delaying our start on day two by over an hour, with us still having to work areas right by the boat launch for safety reasons. We love catching bass, but safety always comes first on my boat.

Paul hit the sunshine state for the 4th year now to fish another three days in search of that trophy bass. Paul likes doing it the old fashioned way, all artificial and on day one we hit Lake Jackson. Hitting an area on the lake that has not only been holding some great numbers of bass, but some very good size as well, it was a bass fishing and catching day out here.

We had a great day on the water, and had several casts were we spooked up some very big bass, but could not get these gals to connect with us. Once again the hot bait was a senko type bait worked tight to cover and around the scattered grass patches. Picture perfect weather with just the right amount of cloud cover made for a very good day out here.

Day two we hit Lake Kissimmee and it was the complete opposite as far as the cloud cover went. Blue Bird skies and a much tougher bite. Everything was pin point casting with us boat a few bass here and there. Today we had mixed it up some with live and artificial baits working every water column you could. Two foot of water to eight foot of water, with no clouds and no breeze we had to work it hard.

This is a quick video of Bass Fishing in Florida. Tom Martin was on the boat with me for the day for some bass fishing action on Lake Jackson which is part of the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes and is located just south of Saint Cloud Florida. This body of water is in the Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area and has probably some of the best bass fishing action going on right now in Central Florida.

We had mixed the day up some using live wild shiners as well as some artificial lures to catch our bass for the day. The live wild shiners were doing great as they boated over 20 bass for us in under six hours of bass fishing.

Artificial lures we were using were wacky rigged senko type baits, zoom brush hogs and spinner baits. Main areas of focus for us was Kissimmee Grass and areas with a mix of Lily pads and hydrilla. These are areas that seem to always produce bass for us out here, and with this body of water being strictly catch and release with largemouth bass the fishing is always great out here.

For the most part, the bass out here will run in the two to five pound range and are very good fighters. Not the typical bass, which while fighting will go for that heart stopping jump, these bass tend to go deep, or as deep as possible in four foot of water and pull a lot of drag. Good numbers and good size make for a complete bass fishing day out here, and yes, there are the fair share of trophy bass out here as well, ranging from 7 to ten pounds. Lake Jackson is definitely a must try lake here in Florida, its just an often overlooked body of water.

End of December 2010 Bass Fishing Report

trophy bass fishingThe last few days has seen some really good action out on Lake Jackson. The lily pad fields have really thinned out in a big way since the state sprayed them and this has opened up a few more areas for us to bass fish. Hydrilla is still very healthy out here and so are the bass.

option for keeping the bass fishing action steady and the guys have been landing some trophy bass as well. Wild shiners have been working best free lined and tossed right to the edges of the lily pads. This is a pattern that has been holding steady now for over a month, and has made many clients very happy.

Central Florida Trophy Bass FishingTom came back once again, along with good friend Frank and they had a blast out here. Between the two of them they boated right about 20 bass in six hours, along with 2 nice catfish and a huge bowfin. The bass the guys were catching were running from school sized bass to the big gal which was just over 7 pounds. Mix in three bass at an easy five pounds  a pop, that makes for one great day of Bass Fishing in Florida!

The remainder of the week saw the same steady action out on Lake Jackson. Live bait was the definite way to go to catch good numbers of bass along with the size. We have been seeing more and more bass beds showing up as the big gals are getting very close to spawning now. Cooler weather has triggered a great bite for us that has remained steady. More cooler weather is on top to close out the month of December and we fully expect the bite to remain strong as we get geared up for the 2011 Florida Bass Fishing Season.

Wacky Rig Bass Fishing Florida

In this video we are fishing on Lake Jackson which is just south of the great town of Saint Cloud Florida. This body of water holds some great bass fishing with some excellent cover to fish. Everything from reeds to lily pad fields and some very healthy hydrilla. Known as a very shallow lake, at times of drought it can become inaccessible very quickly, but the bass fishing always seems to be top notch out here.
Wild shiners are always a great way to catch bass, and even trophy bass out here, but one of our favorites is a wacky rigged senko worked along the grass lines or thru the lily pads.

This rigging has boated a ton of bass out here for us, ranging from one pound up to 7 pounds, and has been a great way to teach the younger generation bass angler how to work artificial lures. This is probably the most basic way to bass fish and has been a very effective way for youngsters to catch bass and get them hooked on our great sport.

As you see in the video when we are using the wacky rig set up, we like to use the live bait hooks. This is a great setup and just like when using live bait, 90% of the hook ups are right in the corner of the mouth. This is a big plus for us as well as the safe release of the bass. Currently the bass fishing has been great and my clients are boating up to 20 bass in a four hour trip. This makes for a great day of bass fishing and some great father and son memories that will last a lifetime.
